Why Is "My Pre-Order" Model Aircraft Taking So Long?" – A Behind-the-Scenes Stor
At Airspotters.com, we know how exciting it is to see that long-awaited model aircraft appear on the pre-order list—especially those rare liveries or limited-edition pieces. However, you may have recently noticed some delays. So, we’d like to share a little behind-the-scenes story to explain what’s really going on.
Most of the die-cast and plastic model aircraft we sell are made in China. It’s where the world’s finest model factories bring our aviation dreams to life—beautifully detailed replicas, from Concordes to Cargolux freighters. But getting them from the factory floor to your display shelf isn’t always as smooth as a well-timed takeoff.
Right now, a perfect storm of global events has created turbulence. Political tensions, global shipping bottlenecks, and increased customs inspections have all contributed to unexpected delays in the shipping process. What used to take a few weeks to arrive at our Corby office now often takes much longer—sometimes even months.
To make matters trickier, container space is limited, and costs have soared. Even once a model is boxed and ready, it can sit waiting for space on a ship or get stuck in port while paperwork slowly moves through international systems.
We understand this can be frustrating. Believe us—we’re just as eager to get them into your hands. We chase updates weekly, communicate constantly with manufacturers, and do everything possible to expedite the process. But sometimes, it's just a waiting game.
You know from placing a pre-order that your model will be on its way—it’s just navigating a few unexpected headwinds. And as always, we’ll keep you updated the moment we know more.
Thank you for your continued patience and for being part of the Airspotters' journey and community. The seas may be choppy, but your next model will be worth the wait.

Understanding model aircraft scales is essential for NEW collectors.
Understanding model aircraft scales is essential for NEW collectors.
Understanding model aircraft scales is essential for collectors, as it directly affects the size, detail, and compatibility of the models within a collection. Here's a breakdown of the common scales—1:200, 1:400, and 1:500—to help you make informed decisions.
📏 What Does "Scale" Mean?
A model's scale indicates how many times smaller it is compared to the actual aircraft. For instance, a 1:200 scale model is 200 times smaller than the real plane. This means that if the actual aircraft is 60 meters long, the 1:200 scale model would be 30 centimeters in length.(Aviation Retail Direct, jumbolino-model.com)
✈️ Common Model Aircraft Scales
🔹 1:200 Scale – Large and Highly Detailed
-
Size: Approximately 30–37 cm in length for wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A340-600.
-
Detail: High; often includes features like detailed landing gear, cockpit windows, and intricate liveries.
-
Ideal for: Collectors seeking detailed models and have ample display space.
-
Price Range: Higher, due to size and detailing.(Hobbyco)
🔹 1:400 Scale – Balanced Choice
-
Size: Approximately 16–19 cm in length for wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A340-600.
-
Detail: Good; balances detail with manageable size.
-
Ideal for: Collectors wanting a mix of detail and space efficiency.
-
Price Range: Moderate.(Hobbyco)
🔹 1:500 Scale – Compact and Space-Saving
-
Size: Approximately 15 cm in length for wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A340-600.
-
Detail: Moderate; suitable for those with limited display space.
-
Ideal for: Collectors with space constraints or those building extensive collections.
-
Price Range: Generally more affordable.
🧠 Why Scale Matters
-
Display Space: Larger scales require more room; consider your available space before choosing.
-
Detail Level: Larger models often offer more intricate details.
-
Collection Consistency: Maintaining a consistent scale ensures uniformity in your collection.
-
Budget: Smaller scales are typically more budget-friendly.
📊 Quick Comparison Table
| Scale | Approximate Length (A340-600) | Detail Level | Ideal For | Price Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1:200 | ~37 cm | High | Detailed displays | Higher |
| 1:400 | ~19 cm | Moderate | Balanced collections | Moderate |
| 1:500 | ~15 cm | Moderate | Space-saving collections | Lower |
By understanding these scales, you can select models that fit your space, budget, and desired level of detail, ensuring a satisfying and cohesive collection.

Miracle on the Hudson 2009. INCREDIBLE RECORVERY PHOTOS!
In January 2009, the US Airways Airbus A320, famously known as "Flight 1549," successfully completed a ditch in the Hudson River after striking a flock of Canada geese after takeoff from LaGuardia Airport in New York. The incident, which took place on January 15, became known as the "Miracle on the Hudson."
Recovery operations for the aircraft began shortly after the successful ditching; this allowed all the passengers (155) and crew members to evacuate. The recovery effort was coordinated by a combination of organisations, including the Coast Guard, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and salvage companies.
Authorities created a safety perimeter around the crash site to ensure the security of the recovery operation.
January 17th, 2009, the salvage team successfully lifted the aircraft out of the River. The plane was transported to a pier for further investigation by the NTSB board. NTSB conducted a thorough detailed look at the aircraft to fully understand the cause of the ditching. It was very important also to gather any data for possible future safety requirements.
The detailed, coordinated recovery operation ensured the aircraft was saved for further work to obtain crucial evidence. It also underscored how swiftly emergency services responded in this critical time frame.

Heathrow Airport, the busiest airport in the United Kingdom, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. It began as a grass airfield in 1929, serving as a base for Imperial Airways. During World War II, the airport was used by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces.
After the war, Heathrow was expanded to accommodate the growing demand for international travel. In 1946, the first scheduled international flight landed at the airport. Throughout the following decades, Heathrow continued to grow, with new terminals and runways being added to meet the increasing number of passengers.
In the 1990s, Heathrow underwent a major redevelopment, with the construction of Terminal 5, the largest terminal in Europe. This expansion solidified Heathrow's position as a major international hub, connecting the UK to destinations around the world.

The details On 25 March, the aircraft (HL7428) operated its last flight, a 2h 9min sortie from Taipei's Taoyuan airport to Seoul Incheon as flight OZ711. Before it departed Taipei and upon arrival in Seoul, the aircraft was given a water cannon salute, says Asiana, which first disclosed the retirement on 29 February.
