Why Is "My Pre-Order" Model Aircraft Taking So Long?" – A Behind-the-Scenes Stor

At Airspotters.com, we know how exciting it is to see that long-awaited model aircraft appear on the pre-order list—especially those rare liveries or limited-edition pieces. However, you may have recently noticed some delays. So, we’d like to share a little behind-the-scenes story to explain what’s really going on.

Most of the die-cast and plastic model aircraft we sell are made in China. It’s where the world’s finest model factories bring our aviation dreams to life—beautifully detailed replicas, from Concordes to Cargolux freighters. But getting them from the factory floor to your display shelf isn’t always as smooth as a well-timed takeoff.

Right now, a perfect storm of global events has created turbulence. Political tensions, global shipping bottlenecks, and increased customs inspections have all contributed to unexpected delays in the shipping process. What used to take a few weeks to arrive at our Corby office now often takes much longer—sometimes even months.

To make matters trickier, container space is limited, and costs have soared. Even once a model is boxed and ready, it can sit waiting for space on a ship or get stuck in port while paperwork slowly moves through international systems.

We understand this can be frustrating. Believe us—we’re just as eager to get them into your hands. We chase updates weekly, communicate constantly with manufacturers, and do everything possible to expedite the process. But sometimes, it's just a waiting game.

You know from placing a pre-order that your model will be on its way—it’s just navigating a few unexpected headwinds. And as always, we’ll keep you updated the moment we know more.

Thank you for your continued patience and for being part of the Airspotters' journey and community. The seas may be choppy, but your next model will be worth the wait.

The above is affecting every retailer, whether it is Models or Clothes
