EasyJet's Classic Livery: A Look Back at Gatwick's "Orange Airport"

Many may not remember, but EasyJet's aircraft used to sport a vibrant orange and white livery. These pictures, taken at Gatwick Airport between 2016 and 2018, capture that era. The airline has since transitioned to a new design, but the classic orange scheme holds a special place in my photo collection.

Gatwick Airport even earned the nickname "the orange airport" due to EasyJet's dominance. It's a reminder of how quickly things change in aviation. Here, we see several aircraft in the old livery, some of which have likely been stored, scrapped or repainted by now.

This post serves as a reminder to capture those fleeting moments. While the weather may not be ideal today, putting off photography can lead to missed opportunities.

Looking back on my 50+ years of photography, I started with a simple Kodak Brownie. It wasn't fancy, but it sparked a lifelong passion. Now, in my 60s, I'm revisiting this love and sometimes wonder about I should have taken an alternative paths, like pursuing photography as a career. But hindsight is always 20/20, right?

British Airways Boeing 777 at London Gatwick & Aviation Photos

Today I spent a hour at London Gatwick. Time was not on my side today but had to pop up and see the NEW livery Emirates A380 arrive. I have posted some photos below for you to see. The video is very short so these photos will be better to look at. I do enjoy taking a photograph and have done so for over 50 years.

LOCKHEED GALAXY C5M AT COPENHAGEN DENMARK.

Taken at Copenhagen airport taxiing past a DHL A300 aircraft.

Just a short video taken on the 21st May 2024. The Galaxy is from Dover base in the USA. It was very nice to receive this video from my friend who is in Denmark at this time. the last one I saw was in a vapour trail and before that 1974 at Farnborough.

Airbus in Toulouse is involved in both commercial and defence aviation. They have several sites around the city including:

The Airbus Training Centre which provides training for airlines on Airbus jetliners.

If you are ever in Toulouse, you can visit the Airbus facilities and learn more about their aircraft manufacturing process.

Airbus is a leading European aerospace manufacturer headquartered in Toulouse, France. The city is nicknamed "La Ville Rose" or "The Pink City" due to the terracotta brick used in many of its buildings.

 Toulouse is considered the world capital of aeronautics and is home to a significant portion of Airbus's workforce.

 There are also several museums in Toulouse dedicated to aviation history, including Aeroscopia.

Airbus Beluga (A300-600ST):

This is the original Beluga, a specialized wide-body airliner derived from the Airbus A300. It has a distinctive bulbous upper fuselage that earned it the nickname "Beluga" after the white whale due to its resemblance.

Five Beluga aircraft were built and first introduced in 1995. Their primary function is to transport Airbus aircraft parts and oversized cargo between various Airbus production sites across Europe. The Beluga fleet is being progressively replaced by the larger Beluga XL.

Inflight 200 Varig Boeing 767-300 PP-VOK Scale 1/200 IF763VR0621

I used to see the Varig DC-10 land at Heathrow back in the day. Heathrow was a long two hour bus ride from Crawley in Sussex. It was well worth the wait as my first time I went to Heathrow was 1974.

You had favorite planes and airlines as spotters do today. One of mine was Varig and loved seeing the DC-10 arrive late afternoon around 4pm. I used to leave it til it started getting dark then dash back to catch the bux back. I remember we stopped at Gatwick and that seem so quiet to Heathrow. Just the odd Laker or British Caledonian One Eleven parked up. I remember seeing a Dan Air Comet take off on an evening flight as we drove past. Those were the days and today it seems so samy and boring.
